The schools provided in Halton are part of Central Governments Building Schools for the Future programme, an initiative to transform education in every secondary school within England.
The programme delivered The Grange School, a 1,300 place PFI all-through school from 0 to 16, and Wade Deacon, a Design and Build 1,500 place secondary school.
At Wade Deacon, integrated spaces have in built flexibility to be either, an assembly hall, lecture space or theatre in the round. Education spaces are provided by a continuous ribbon, which can be modified to suit differing teaching styles or special requirements. The overall concept is One School with One Beating Heart.
This concept is also key at The Grange a vibrant solution was developed that integrates 4 schools into one and allows all of the spaces to work as individual school or integrate as one. Externally an all weather pitch allows the schools facilities to be used for longer periods throughout the year and provides a platform to bring the community back into the heart of the school.
